To Our Donors:

What follows is one of our periodic updates to the activities of the Himalayan Village Fund. We hope this reminder of what we do will encourage you to keep us in mind when you are making charitable donations.

Though like many organizations we have struggled some with the effects of the pandemic, we have managed to stay our course. We continue to provide scholarships to Dalit (“Untouchable”) children in two Nepali villages in the foothills above the city of Pokhara. In fact, thanks to the generosity of many of you, we have been able to add 4 new four-year-olds to our rolls. That brings our total to sixty students ranging from nursery school age (3 or 4) up through level 6 (the equivalent of American 6th or 7th grades). We remain committed to supporting all of these students through their high school years, which run through level 10.

Like countries throughout the world, Nepal has struggled to keep educating its children effectively during the pandemic. Since in-person schooling was largely restored several months ago, the situation for students now seems to be much improved. But rather than hearing about this from me, babbling at a distance of 12,000 miles from Nepal, take a look at the message we received last week from Ram, one of our original Nepali contacts and a founding father of our Nepali scholarship project. From him, you can get an on-the-ground sense of how things are now with our students. I’m betting his slightly broken English prose (greatly improved over when we first met him a decade ago) will endear him to you a little. Deservedly, if so. With him and his close friend and mountain guide partner Harka as managers, we think our operations in their villages of Dhital and Kaskikot are in the best of hands.

Below is Ram’s message. We thank you gratefully for your help.
